3.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Okcheon, No Damage Reported


Okcheon: A 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck the central county of Okcheon, marking it as the country’s third-most powerful quake of the year, the state weather agency reported on Wednesday. The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that the seismic event occurred approximately 17 kilometers east of Okcheon in North Chungcheong Province at around 11:49 a.m. The earthquake’s epicenter was estimated to be at a depth of 9 kilometers.



According to Yonhap News Agency, the National Fire Agency received about a dozen reports from residents who felt the tremors. Despite the concerns, no injuries or property damage were reported, nor were any emergency dispatches required.



Later in the day, the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission confirmed that all domestic nuclear power facilities remained safe and were unaffected by the earthquake.
