SEOUL: A seventh lawmaker from South Korea's ruling People Power Party (PPP) announced her intention to vote in favor of a parliamentary motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol. The motion pertains to Yoon's recent controversial martial law declaration, which has sparked significant political unrest.According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Han Zee-a expressed her stance on the impeachment through a Facebook post, emphasizing the necessity for the president's fate to be determined by the public. The main opposition Democratic Party is preparing to introduce a new impeachment motion following the scrapping of a previous one due to a boycott by most PPP lawmakers. The impeachment requires a two-thirds majority and support from at least eight PPP lawmakers. The vote is anticipated this Saturday.In a public address, President Yoon defended his short-lived martial law declaration, framing it as a governance decision and refuting insurrection charges. Despite his defense, Han, who is also a PPP spokesperson, reaf firmed her commitment to participating in the impeachment vote.Han joins six other PPP lawmakers who have publicly supported the impeachment, including Reps. Cho Kyoung-tae, Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Sang-wook, Kim Yea-ji, Kim Jae-sub, and Jin Jong-oh. Jin reiterated his support earlier, expressing a desire to restore public trust in the People Power Party during an address at the National Assembly.
