KPJ Healthcare Bhd, through its premier educational institution KPJ Healthcare University (KPJU) recently signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with research institutions and industry leaders to affirm its commitment to enhance medical and healthcare research.
KPJ Healthcare in a statement said the MoU with Arcadia Lifesciences Sdn Bhd, University of Southampton Malaysia and Alpro Pharmacy Sdn Bhd alongside a Letter of Intent with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) reflect KPJ’s dedication to advance precision medicine, academic advancement, healthcare education and pioneering medical research.
It said these collaborations aimed to combine research efforts with established research institutions by pooling top talents and professionals from KPJU as well as KPJ Hospitals and they will be embarking on research efforts in genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics studies, as well as identifying biomarkers in precision medicine.
KPJ Healthcare said it will be done by leveraging KPJ Hospitals wealth of big data which is the precursor to new medical knowledge and innovative technologies, adding that the collaboration is also a forerunner to the establishment of KPJ Research Centre, a strategic integration between KPJ Healthcare’s hospitals with KPJU Research Centre.
It said the research centre will be a central hub for coordinating, promoting and conducting research in healthcare within the KPJ ecosystem, and will be backed by a team of expert medical consultants, scientists, and clinicians from KPJ Hospitals, as well as researchers and academicians from KPJU.
KPJ Research Centre will endeavour to develop collaborative clinical research, conduct clinical trials and bridging experts from a variety of disciplines including medicine, science, engineering and technology, which will allow KPJ Healthcare to pool its resources and expertise to address some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare.
KPJU executive director and KPJ Healthcare officer in charge Norhaizam Mohammad in the statement said they are thrilled to partner with multiple research institutions who are leaders in their respective research fields, to collectively join forces in working towards advancing healthcare research.
“This would not only allow us to share our knowledge and resources, but we will also be identifying new and disruptive ways to improve patient care, ultimately driving our transformation agenda in redefining healthcare.
“These partnerships also underscore our commitment to foster a culture of excellence through building a strong and lasting foundation for research collaboration that will benefit the advancement of the healthcare sector,” she said.
Present during the MoU signing ceremony were KPJ Healthcare members of Board of Directors Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid and Prof Datuk Dr Azizi Omar, KPJ Healthcare chief operating officer Datuk Mohamad Farid Salim, KPJ Healthcare chief commercial officer Dr Nik Fawaz Nik Abdul Aziz and KPJU vice chancellor Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Lokman Saim.
