Krafton Reports 42.6% Decline in Q3 Net Income Due to Foreign Exchange Losses.

Seoul: Krafton Inc., a prominent South Korean game developer famous for its widely successful game PUBG: Battlegrounds, announced on Thursday a significant drop in its third-quarter net income. The company reported a net profit of 121.4 billion won (approximately US$86.9 million) for the period spanning July to September, marking a 42.6 percent decrease from the same period last year.According to Yonhap News Agency, the decline in net income was primarily attributed to non-operating losses stemming from fluctuating foreign exchange rates. Despite this setback, Krafton experienced a notable increase in both operating income and sales during the third quarter. Operating income surged by 71.4 percent year-on-year to 324.4 billion won, while sales grew by 59.7 percent to reach 719.3 billion won.The financial results fell short of market analysts' expectations, who projected an average net profit of 239.2 billion won, based on a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data arm of Yonhap News Agency. Nonetheless, the enduring popularity of Krafton's flagship game, PUBG: Battlegrounds, played a crucial role in bolstering the company's sales and operating profits during the third quarter. For the first nine months of the year, Krafton achieved cumulative sales of 2 trillion won and an operating profit of 967 billion won, surpassing its full-year revenue and operating profit for the previous year. The company also reported making 13 investments in game studios throughout the first three quarters to explore new game sources and intellectual properties.
