Pohang: A POSCO factory in the southeastern city of Pohang experienced its second fire incident in two weeks, with officials confirming there were no casualties reported.According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire ignited at the steel company's patented No. 3 Finex furnace of the plant, situated approximately 270 kilometers southeast of Seoul, at 11:18 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters were quick to respond, dispatching 21 fire trucks and about 50 personnel to the scene, successfully extinguishing the flames by 1:13 a.m. on Monday.Authorities, including the police and fire agency, are set to investigate the precise cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage. This incident follows a previous fire at the same Finex furnace just two weeks prior, which resulted in one worker being injured and production being temporarily halted. The company had only resumed normal operations at the furnace last Tuesday.A company spokesperson assured that the fire at the No. 3 Finex furnace would not impact the Pohang pl ant's daily output capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 tons. The spokesperson noted that the No. 2 Finex furnace and three blast furnaces in Pohang would compensate for the production losses from the affected furnace. POSCO is determined to restart the operations of the No. 3 Finex furnace within the year.In addition to the Pohang site, POSCO operates five blast furnaces at another domestic integrated steel mill located in Gwangyang, roughly 290 km south of Seoul.
