Seoul: The Cabinet has offered to resign collectively amidst political turmoil triggered by President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law, officials reported on Wednesday. The decision was taken during a meeting led by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, where almost all Cabinet members, including Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok and Education Minister Lee Ju-ho, expressed their intent to step down in response to the president's overnight order and the subsequent lifting of martial law earlier the same day.According to Yonhap News Agency, Justice Minister Park Sung-jae stated, "I have no intention of continuing in my post," following the meeting with fellow Cabinet members. Additionally, Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who is said to have suggested the martial law declaration to President Yoon, announced his resignation through a public statement.Prime Minister Han Duck-soo urged the Cabinet members to continue their duties to ensure stability. "I ask the Cabinet to fulfill your responsibilities together wi th the public officials of all ministries to ensure the people's safety and everyday lives are maintained without the slightest wavering," he said. He further emphasized his commitment to serving the public until the very end by collaborating with his Cabinet to navigate through the current crisis.Earlier in the day, senior aides within the presidential office, including the chief of staff to President Yoon, also tendered their resignations, highlighting the widespread impact of the martial law declaration on the government.
