SEOUL: Several teachers' groups have called for the resignation of President Yoon Suk Yeol following his recent martial law declaration, labeling his actions as driven by "violence," "hatred," and "ostracism."According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean Language Teachers Association, which consists of school teachers specializing in the Korean language, issued a statement condemning President Yoon's actions. The group accused the president of promoting violence based on hatred and ostracism, and warned of punitive measures against those with differing opinions. They declared their intention to fight until the "ringleader of insurrection" is removed from power, while urging lawmakers to support a parliamentary motion for impeachment and the immediate arrest of those responsible.The statement has garnered significant support, with 2,511 Korean language teachers signing since Tuesday. This call for action follows a similar statement issued last week by over 2,300 Korean history teachers demanding Yoon's immed iate resignation.In a related development, a group known as "teachers determined to safeguard democracy" announced plans to release a statement in front of the National Assembly later in the day, with more than 3,600 teachers having signed in support. "We hope to be teachers who are not ashamed in front of our students," the group stated.Additionally, more than 6,000 university professors and researchers have echoed these demands during a press briefing, asserting that impeachment is the necessary step to restore constitutional order and safeguard national interests. They called on the ruling People Power Party to make a prudent decision as the main opposition party seeks a parliamentary vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon scheduled for Saturday.
