Prime Minister Asserts Stability of South Korea’s Economy Amid Political Upheaval

SEOUL: Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has reaffirmed the resilience of South Korea's economic system in the face of recent political unrest caused by an aborted martial law attempt. During a meeting in Seoul with the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Han highlighted the country's economic stability and urged continued confidence from foreign investors.According to Yonhap News Agency, Prime Minister Han stated, "South Korea's economic system has remained steadfast amid recent changes in the domestic political environment." The meeting aimed to reassure international business leaders about the country's economic prospects despite the political turbulence.Han emphasized ongoing collaboration between government ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and financial institutions to maintain a stable climate for both foreign investment and domestic economic activities. He encouraged foreign investors and businesses to car ry on with their operations with confidence in South Korea's economic fundamentals, while also appealing for their support for the nation's economy, which is the fourth largest in Asia.The Prime Minister's remarks align with the South Korean government's broader strategy to cushion the economic repercussions of President Yoon Suk Yeol's unsuccessful martial law attempt last week. Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok noted that the government is actively engaging with foreign governments and media to mitigate any potential economic fallout.David-Pierre Jalicon, chairman of the French chamber, remarked that the French business community in South Korea is performing well following discussions with Seoul's finance and industry ministers. Similarly, Park Hyun-nam, chairperson of the German chamber, expressed reassurance among German investors and business people following Prime Minister Han's assurances.
