SEOUL: FC Seoul has announced the signing of Kim Jin-su, a seasoned defender from South Korea's national team, as they aim to strengthen their roster for the upcoming 2025 season. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move following their successful 2024 campaign, which saw them finish in fourth place in the K League 1 standings.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Jin-su, a 32-year-old left fullback, joins FC Seoul after a long tenure with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. Kim's career includes a brief period with Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia between 2020 and 2021. His professional journey began in 2012 with Albirex Niigata in Japan, followed by a stint at 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany. Over the years, Kim has earned 74 caps for South Korea, contributing two goals and 11 assists, and he played an active role in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
FC Seoul's performance in 2024 marked their best since 2019, with a tally of 58 points, placing them fourth in the league. The team scored 55 goals while conceding 42, achieving a goal difference of +13, the third-best in the K League 1. The club sees Kim as a key player who can help elevate their performance further in 2025.
Kim, recognized for his skillful crosses and dynamic play on the left wing, expressed his enthusiasm about joining FC Seoul. In a statement, he said, "I am honored to have joined FC Seoul, one of the most prestigious clubs in South Korea. I know we have an enthusiastic fan base, and I know what I am supposed to do. I will do my best to make the 2025 season an enjoyable one for our supporters."
The move also reunites Kim with his former under-23 national team coach, Kim Gi-dong, who was appointed as FC Seoul's head coach in December 2023. This reunion is expected to add a layer of familiarity and strategic advantage as the club prepares for the next season.
