Korean Stocks See Mixed Results as Pharmaceutical and Auto Sectors Gain Momentum

SEOUL: The South Korean stock market exhibited mixed results as several pharmaceutical and automotive companies posted significant gains, while numerous financial and chemical firms faced declines. The KOSPI 200 index reflected these varied outcomes, with highlights including notable increases in companies like Daewoong Pharm and HanmiPharm.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Daewoong Pharm experienced a substantial rise in its stock price, closing at 126,400, marking an increase of 4,100. HanmiPharm also saw a significant boost, with its stock increasing by 7,500 to close at 280,500. In the automotive sector, Hyundai Glovis and SK Innovation reported gains, closing at 118,100 and 112,000, respectively, with increases of 800 and 1,000. Meanwhile, Kumho Petrochem saw its stock price rise by 1,500, ending the day at 90,600.

Conversely, several financial institutions experienced declines. KB Financial Group's stock dropped by 2,100, closing at 82,900, while Hana Financial Group saw a decrease of 800, ending at 56,800. Additionally, HD KSOE faced a notable decline, with its stock price dropping by 3,000 to close at 228,000. The chemical sector also saw downward trends, with LG Innotek and Lotte Chemical Corp experiencing declines of 600 and 700, closing at 162,000 and 59,800, respectively.

Other companies that reported gains include Fila Holdings, which increased by 450 to close at 40,300, and Youngone Corp, which rose by 950 to finish at 42,400. On the other hand, OCI Holdings and Youngone Holdings faced declines, with their stocks dropping by 600 and 1,700, closing at 58,800 and 83,200, respectively.

Overall, the KOSPI 200 index's mixed performances underscore the varied economic landscape in South Korea, highlighting both growth in key sectors like pharmaceuticals and challenges faced by financial and chemical industries.
