SEOUL: "Squid Game" Season 2 has emerged as the most-watched show on Netflix during its release week, amassing a staggering 480 million viewing hours, according to the streaming platform's Global Top 10 rankings.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean series not only dominated the non-English TV category but also surpassed the viewing hours of English TV shows and both English and non-English films during the same period. This impressive achievement highlights the show's widespread appeal and global popularity.
The series set a record for the highest number of views during its premiere week, outstripping the 448 million viewing hours recorded by its predecessor in the fourth week of September 2021. This accomplishment underscores the anticipation and excitement surrounding the release of "Squid Game" Season 2.
Despite being released on a Friday, "Squid Game" Season 2 quickly ascended to the No. 7 position on the all-time most popular non-English shows list. The first season of "Squid Game" continues to hold the top spot, with the Spanish series "Money Heist" Part 4 and the French series "Lupin" Part 1 following closely behind.
In addition to the show's success, a teaser poster was unveiled on the same day, featuring a new game character, Cheol-soo, alongside Young-hee, the animatronic doll known for monitoring players' movements. The new character is expected to make an appearance in the third season, which is anticipated to premiere later this year, adding to the intrigue and excitement for fans of the series.
