Seoul: The anti-corruption agency investigating President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law case announced on Wednesday that discussions are underway with Yoon's team regarding the execution of a warrant to detain the impeached president. Prosecutors from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) have entered the presidential residence compound to engage with representatives from Yoon's side about the warrant, a CIO official informed reporters during a briefing.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the CIO plans to execute the warrant to take Yoon into custody, as they do not anticipate his voluntary appearance. The CIO official confirmed that no physical confrontations occurred when entering the residence compound, situated in Seoul's Hannam Ward. This contrasts with the previous attempt to detain Yoon on January 3, which concluded after a six-hour standoff with his presidential security guards amid concerns over a potential conflict.
The CIO's present engagement with Yoon's team marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the martial law case. The absence of active resistance from personnel or security staff during this attempt suggests a possible shift in the dynamics surrounding the case.
