Seoul: South Korean space startup TelePIX: South Korean space startup TelePIX announced it has completed a satellite imagery analysis of the wildfires that have affected a large area around Los Angeles. The results of this analysis will be provided to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
According to Yonhap News Agency, the analysis shows that the wildfires damaged 102.4 square kilometers of land, a size roughly 35 times that of Seoul's Yeouido financial district, within just five days since the fires started on January 7. This devastated area is comparable to more than 12,000 soccer fields combined.
TelePIX conducted this assessment using its generative artificial intelligence service tailored for satellite imagery applications, alongside data from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 satellite. The company plans to share its findings with the UNDRR to assist in their ongoing response to the wildfires, which have not yet been fully controlled.
According to TelePIX, data indicates that the fire might have initially started near Skull Rock inside Los Angeles's Topanga State Park. After the initial outbreak, the fire appears to have spread first to the southwest and then to the southeast due to prevailing winds.
