Washington: South Korean Ambassador to the United States Cho Hyun-dong will attend the inauguration of incoming U.S. President Donald Trump next week, the foreign ministry announced Thursday. As per protocol, the ambassador will represent the South Korean government at the event.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho's attendance aligns with U.S. diplomatic customs, where ambassadors and their spouses stationed in Washington are invited to such ceremonies. However, no invitation has been extended to Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul.
The foreign ministry official mentioned that South Korea is in discussions with the United States to facilitate in-person communication with the Trump administration at the earliest opportunity, including a potential visit by the foreign minister. In its policy plans for 2025, the ministry emphasized the importance of high-level exchanges with the new administration to maintain and develop the bilateral alliance.
