Seoul: Impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol has again refused to appear for questioning regarding his attempted martial law, marking the third consecutive day of his detention.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) had summoned Yoon for further questioning at 10 a.m., following his absence the day before due to health concerns. "The president will not appear at the CIO today," stated Seok Dong-hyeon, Yoon's lawyer and longtime friend. "He thoroughly stated his basic position during the CIO's questioning the first day and doesn't see any reason or need to respond to a question-and-answer type of interrogation."
Yoon has been detained since Wednesday night after authorities apprehended him at his residence. He was taken to the CIO office in Gwacheon, just south of Seoul, for over 10 hours of questioning. Yoon subsequently filed a request with the Seoul Central District Court to review the legality of his detention, which was dismissed Thursday night, thereby continuing his custody.
The CIO is anticipated to request a warrant for Yoon's formal arrest before the 48-hour deadline expires on Friday night.
