Court to Hold First Formal Hearing of Prime Minister’s Impeachment Trial on February 19

Seoul: The Constitutional Court announced on Wednesday that it will conduct the first formal hearing of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo's impeachment trial on February 19.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Hyung-du, the lead justice for the case, revealed this decision during a preparatory hearing at the court. He instructed the legal representatives for both Prime Minister Han and the National Assembly to submit the required documents and evidence by February 13.

Prime Minister Han was impeached by the opposition-controlled National Assembly on December 27. This action followed his refusal to appoint additional justices to the Constitutional Court before its review of President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment. President Yoon had declared martial law on December 3, an act that led to his impeachment.

The impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han also accused him of either plotting or supporting an insurrection through the temporary imposition of martial law.
