Anseong: A tragic incident unfolded at a construction site on the Seoul-Sejong expressway in Anseong when a bridge collapsed, resulting in the deaths of two workers and injuring seven others. The collapse occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m., 65 kilometers south of Seoul. Rescue operations are underway for one person still trapped under the debris.
According to Yonhap News Agency, several concrete slabs fell from a pier, impacting 10 workers beneath the bridge. While two workers succumbed to their injuries, seven others sustained serious injuries and are receiving medical attention. Initial reports from fire authorities mistakenly cited three fatalities, but this was later amended to two.
Hyundai Engineering, responsible for the construction, stated that all personnel are concentrating on recovery operations. Efforts are ongoing to identify the number of subcontracted workers present at the site during the incident.
The National Fire Agency has mobilized additional firefighters to assist in the search and rescue operations. Acting President Choi Sang-mok has issued emergency directives to deploy all necessary resources and personnel to facilitate the rescue efforts.
