Seoul: The U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) has announced an extension in the standard tour length for service members accompanied by family members in South Korea, changing it from two years to three years to enhance continuity in operations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the new policy dictates that service members with family members will now serve 36 months in South Korea before proceeding to their next duty station. Meanwhile, the tour length for unaccompanied service members will remain at 12 months, as stated by the USFK.
The USFK clarified that this policy will not affect those already stationed in South Korea with their families but will apply to new arrivals. The full implementation of this policy is expected by October 2027.
"This policy adjustment aims to provide greater continuity within USFK," the USFK said in a release. "The extended tour length is expected to enhance operational efficiency by reducing turnover and increasing mission effectiveness."
