South Korea’s Historical Milestones Highlighted on This Day

Seoul: Today in Korean history, several significant events have marked milestones in South Korea's diplomatic, political, and sporting arenas. On this day in 1950, South Korea established diplomatic relations with Sweden, a notable step in expanding its international partnerships during a tumultuous period.

According to Yonhap News Agency, another landmark event occurred in 1964 when Korean Air Lines Co. inaugurated its service between Seoul and Osaka, Japan, strengthening ties and connectivity between the two nations. In 2002, a humanitarian episode unfolded as twenty-five North Koreans, who had sought asylum at the Spanish Embassy in Beijing, safely arrived in South Korea via Manila, Philippines.

In 2005, a strong statement was made by South Korea, asserting that it would not tolerate challenges to its territorial sovereignty or any distortion of shared history by Japan. This declaration underscored the ongoing tensions and historical disputes between the two countries.
