Cheongsong: The justice ministry said Tuesday it was transferring some 2,600 inmates from a correctional facility in the southeastern county of Cheongsong, as wildfires were spreading fast around the region.
According to Yonhap News Agency, correctional officials began transferring the convicts from the Gyeongbuk Northern Prison by bus to nearby correctional facilities. The ministry noted that they were also reviewing the transfer of inmates from the prison in Andong.
The Gyeongbuk prison consists of three correctional facilities and one rehabilitation facility for vocational training. About 800 inmates are held in the Andong prison.
