Seoul: President Yoon Suk Yeol has opted not to attend the Constitutional Court session for his impeachment ruling scheduled for Friday, as confirmed by his legal team. The Constitutional Court is set to announce its decision on Yoon's impeachment, which stems from his brief implementation of martial law, at 11 a.m. on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the legal team cited public order and security concerns as reasons for Yoon's absence, anticipating potential congestion if he were to appear. President Yoon faced impeachment by the National Assembly, accused of breaching the Constitution and laws through his short-lived martial law declaration on December 3.
Yoon has consistently denied any misconduct, arguing that his declaration served as a caution to the main opposition party, which he accused of legislative power abuse. The Constitution requires at least six out of the eight current justices to consent to uphold the impeachment motion.
