Suwon: Two Chinese teenagers have been apprehended for illegally filming fighter jets near a major air base in Suwon, police said Monday. The incident has raised concerns about security breaches at military installations.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two Chinese nationals are suspected of using their DSLR camera and mobile phone to film fighter jets landing and taking off from the Air Force's 10th Fighter Wing at around 3:30 p.m. on March 21. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police have charged the teenagers with breaching the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act, and they have been placed under a travel ban.
The teenagers, who reportedly attend high school in China, entered the country on a tourist visa three days before the incident. Upon examination of their devices, police discovered multiple photos of fighter jets. A forensic analysis is currently underway to determine whether similar photos were taken at other military facilities, airports, and ports.
Both police and the Air Force have refrained from providing further information on the case, citing an ongoing investigation. The situation underscores the challenges authorities face in safeguarding sensitive military zones from unauthorized surveillance.
