Hyderabad: Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea's leading auto parts maker, announced the opening of an integrated research and development (R and D) center in India, positioning it as a global strategic hub dedicated to automotive software. The move consolidates two existing R and D centers in India into a single large-scale base aimed at participating in more projects spearheaded by its parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, and supplying mobility solutions for vehicles developed by the group and global carmakers.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jong-keun, head of Hyundai Mobis Technical Center of India, emphasized the company's nearly 20 years of experience in developing mobility solutions for production vehicles. He stated that the new center will focus on advancing software and enhancing product competitiveness. The facility, situated in the heart of Hyderabad, is designed to cater to the increasing demand for automotive software solutions in India, which is now the world's most populous country.

The Indian automobile market is anticipated to expand to 6.2 million vehicles by 2028, up from the current 5.2 million units per year, making it the third-largest market globally, as reported by a global research firm. Hyundai Mobis is concentrating on developing a hardware and software integrated platform for next-generation vehicles, such as software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The company currently operates five global R and D hubs, with locations in South Korea, China, Europe, and the United States.
