Samsung’s, LG’s Air Conditioner Sales Surge Ahead of Summer

Seoul: Sales of air conditioners from Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. grew sharply from a year earlier in the first quarter as consumers brace for what is expected to be an unusually hot summer, the companies said Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics reported a 51 percent year-on-year increase in sales of its home air conditioners for the January-March period. The company noted that in March alone, sales surged by 61 percent compared with the same month last year.

LG Electronics also experienced significant growth, with its first-quarter air conditioner sales spiking 60 percent from the previous year. The company stated that March sales skyrocketed by 80 percent year-on-year.

Both Samsung and LG have been operating their air conditioner production lines at full capacity to meet the soaring demand. The Korea Meteorological Administration's annual climate outlook forecasts a 60 percent chance that the summer of 2025 will be hotter than average, prompting consumers to prepare in advance.
