Manager Takes Responsibility as LG Twins Face First Losing Streak of the Season

Seoul: With the LG Twins experiencing their first losing streak of the 2025 Korea Baseball Organization season, manager Youm Kyoung-youb has openly taken responsibility for the team's recent setbacks. The Twins suffered a 6-5 defeat in 10 innings against the NC Dinos at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, marking their second consecutive loss and bringing their record to 18-6-0.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Youm emphasized that the blame for the losses lies with him, not his players, who he believes are performing well under the circumstances. Despite the recent losses, the Twins maintain a 4.5-game lead over the second-place KT Wiz. In a pregame discussion, Youm reflected on his decisions during the late innings of the recent game, admitting they did not yield the desired results.

One pivotal moment came when the Twins had the winning run on third base with Lee Young-bin at the plate. Youm opted not to substitute Lee with a pinch hitter or attempt a squeeze play, hoping Lee could deliver a confidence-boosting hit. Unfortunately, Lee struck out, and the Twins failed to capitalize on the opportunity. Youm acknowledged that this decision might impact Lee's development, stating it was a managerial error.

Throughout the season, Youm has balanced immediate success with the development of younger players. He has regularly rested veteran players to provide opportunities for younger talents. For the upcoming game, Youm planned to start with younger players, leaving seasoned hitters Hong Chang-ki and Kim Hyun-soo on the bench due to strategic reasons, especially against left-handed pitcher Logan Allen.

Youm also addressed the condition of veteran shortstop Oh Ji-hwan, who is currently managing lower back pains and will be unavailable for batting duties until at least Thursday. Oh participated as a defensive substitute but is limited in his capacity to swing the bat.
