South Korea Sees Industrial Output Rise in March Due to Strong Semiconductor Production

Seoul: South Korea's industrial output experienced a notable increase in March, primarily driven by robust semiconductor production, as revealed by recent data on Wednesday. This growth occurred despite ongoing weaknesses in other sectors of the economy.According to Yonhap News Agency, industrial production rose by 0.9 percent in March, marking the second consecutive month of growth. This follows a downturn that began in September, interrupted only by a brief increase in December. The semiconductor sector played a pivotal role in this recovery, bolstering the overall industrial output.In contrast to the industrial growth, other economic indicators showed a decline. Retail sales, a critical measure of private consumption, decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month. Additionally, facility investment fell by 0.9 percent in March, following a significant rebound in February, highlighting the mixed economic landscape in South Korea.
