Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest car manufacturer, reported a 2 percent increase in sales for April compared to the same month last year, primarily fueled by strong demand for its SUV models. The company successfully sold 353,338 vehicles in April, surpassing the 346,473 units sold during the same period in the previous year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai's domestic sales saw a significant rise of 5.9 percent, increasing from 63,733 to 67,510 units. Overseas sales also experienced growth, albeit at a slower rate, with a 1.1 percent increase from 282,740 to 285,828 units over the same period.
The carmaker plans to enhance its global market presence by aggressively promoting new models, such as the all-new Palisade SUV, the all-new Nexo hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, and the facelifted all-electric Ioniq 6. Despite the slowdown in the electric vehicle market, Hyundai aims to maintain robust sales of gasoline hybrid vehicles alongside its high-end models.
From January to April, Hyundai's cumulative sales edged up slightly by 0.1 percent, reaching 1,354,458 vehicles compared to 1,353,179 in the same timeframe last year. The domestic market showed a 4.5 percent increase in sales, totaling 233,870 units up from 223,700. However, overseas sales saw a decline of 0.8 percent, dropping to 1,120,588 from 1,129,479.
