PPP Presidential Candidate Kim Moon-soo and Ex-PM Han Duck-soo to Discuss Possible Candidacy Unification

Seoul: People Power Party (PPP) presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo was set to hold a meeting with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on Wednesday, as they were expected to discuss whether to unify their candidacies for the June 3 vote. Kim and Han were scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. at an undisclosed venue amidst growing internal strife within the PPP, with Kim urging the party leadership to stop pressuring the unification.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the PPP will conduct an opinion poll on its members to gauge support for the unified presidential candidacy. The party is also set to hold a general meeting of its lawmakers, with the unification issue between Kim and Han expected to be the top agenda. Kim has no official activities other than the meeting this day as he suspended his election campaign Tuesday, citing what he called a lack of party support for his candidacy.

Kim, a former labor minister, was nominated by the PPP as its presidential candidate last week, and Han also declared his presidential bid. May 7 is the deadline by which the National Election Commission must order printed materials for the race. May 11 is the deadline for candidate registration with the commission, while May 25 is the date that ballot printing begins.
