Seoul Delays Han River Bus Service Launch to September

Seoul: The Seoul metropolitan government announced a delay in the launch of its Han River Bus service from June to September, attributing the postponement to a delay in the ship-building schedule. The water bus service, aimed at reducing commute times between Jamsil and Yeouido's financial district during rush hour, was originally planned to commence in October of the previous year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the launch faced multiple delays, initially postponed from October to March, then further to June. To address this recent delay, the city has outlined plans for test rides allowing citizens and experts to inspect the ship's safety and refine its service prior to the official launch.

The city's plan includes safety checks conducted by vessels and marine technical experts in June. Additionally, individuals with disabilities, seniors, and pregnant women will assess any boarding or riding inconveniences. Furthermore, from July to August, individuals working near the seven stops, including Magok, Jamsil, Mangwon, Yeouido, Apgujeong, Oksu, and Ttukseom, will participate in test rides.

A city official emphasized the importance of involving not just experts but also Seoul citizens, individuals facing public transportation challenges, and foreign tourists in verifying the efficacy, safety, and service of the Hangang River Bus. This participatory approach aims to enhance the system for its eventual launch.

The service will eventually operate a total of 12 vessels, gradually starting from June and continuing until November. The journey from Jamsil to Yeouido is expected to take approximately 34 minutes, with the ships traveling at an average speed of 15.6 knots, as per the city's projections.
