Charlotte: South Korean golfer Kim Si-woo has secured his first top-10 finish at a major tournament with an eventful final round at the PGA Championship held in North Carolina.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim completed the second major tournament of the 2025 season at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte with a two-over 73 on Sunday. He concluded the event at four-under 280, tying for eighth place alongside eight other competitors.
Starting the day tied for fifth at six-under, Kim was five strokes behind leader Scottie Scheffler of the United States. Early bogeys on three of the first four holes set Kim back, along with further bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes, leaving him at two-under by the turn.
Kim managed to regain momentum with a birdie on the par-4 12th and another impressive birdie after chipping in from off the green at the par-5 15th. He continued with a birdie on the 16th but bogeyed the 17th. Kim concluded the round by successfully sinking a 12-foot par putt on the 18th, celebrating with a fist pump.
As a result of his performance, Kim moved up seven places in the world rankings to No. 59. This advancement secures his qualification for the U.S. Open, scheduled for June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.
Scottie Scheffler clinched his third major title with an 11-under finish, maintaining his lead with an even 71 on Sunday. He finished five strokes ahead of three competitors, including two-time major winner Bryson DeChambeau.
Kim was one of three South Korean golfers to make the cut at the PGA Championship, with the other two finishing well outside the top ranks. Tom Kim ended the tournament in 71st place among the 74 who made the cut, finishing at nine-over 293 after a final round score of 75.
An Byeong-hun finished last with a score of 13-over 297, having started the tournament with a promising 69 but faltering over the subsequent rounds with scores of 73, 79, and 76.
