Police Secure Data in Probe of Ex-First Lady’s Clothing Expenses

Seoul: Police investigating allegations of former President Moon Jae-in’s wife, Kim Jung-sook, misusing taxpayer money for clothing purchases have secured all necessary data from the Presidential Archives. This development follows a monthlong raid, confirmed by Park Hyun-soo, acting chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency (SMPA).

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim is suspected of using the presidential office’s special activity funds to acquire dozens of clothing items during Moon’s presidency from 2017 to 2022. The investigation involved a raid on the Presidential Archives in Sejong, completed on May 9, with police now examining the seized materials.

The SMPA obtained a search warrant from the Seoul High Court in early April, executing it on April 10. An SMPA official stated that the raid was conducted in cooperation with the Presidential Archives and attributed the monthlong process to the overlapping transfer of presidential records.
