Seoul: Former President Yoon Suk Yeol made a public appearance on Wednesday to attend the screening of a documentary focusing on alleged election fraud, just 13 days before the presidential election ensuing from his impeachment over declaring martial law.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this marks Yoon's first public engagement since his removal from office on April 4, following his controversial martial law declaration in December. Prior to this, Yoon had only been seen attending trials concerning his insurrection charges.
Yoon, dressed in a navy suit sans tie, was greeted by a group of young supporters at Megabox Dongdaemun, where the documentary "Election Fraud: A Work of God?" directed by Lee Young-don, was playing. The supporters, many clad in university-logo jumpers, held signs saying "Yoon Again" and "Make Korea Great Again."
During his brief imposition of martial law, Yoon had deployed troops to the National Election Committee (NEC) to investigate alleged election fraud. However, the NEC dismissed these allegations.
