DP’s Lee Vows ‘Pragmatic’ Diplomacy, To Solidify 3-Way Cooperation With U.S., Japan

Seoul: Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung announced his commitment to pursuing "pragmatic" diplomacy aimed at advancing national interests, should he win the upcoming election. Lee emphasized the importance of strengthening trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee, who is currently leading the campaign, shared his foreign policy and national security objectives on Facebook, with the election scheduled for June 3. He stressed the significance of a robust South Korea-U.S. alliance, stating his intention to implement a foreign policy focused on national interest. Lee also highlighted the need to restore trust in the South Korea-U.S. alliance, which he claims has been compromised by past issues related to illegal martial law, and to develop it into a forward-looking comprehensive strategic partnership.

Lee further expressed his commitment to reinforcing cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, identifying Japan as a crucial partner in these efforts.
