Pentagon Reaffirms Commitment to South Korea Following Lee’s Presidential Victory

Seoul: A Pentagon spokesperson on Tuesday reaffirmed the United States' "ironclad" commitment to the defense of South Korea and the bilateral alliance, after Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung was elected president.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Maj. Pete Nguyen, the Pentagon spokesperson, emphasized the strong and unwavering nature of the U.S. commitment to South Korea's defense. This statement was made in response to a request for comment following Lee's election victory.

In this week's election, Lee Jae-myung secured a win against his main rival, Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party. The election followed the ousting of former President Yoon Suk Yeol in April, which was a result of his brief imposition of martial law in December.
