Seoul: Ministers and vice ministers from the former Yoon Suk Yeol administration submitted their resignations en masse earlier this week, a government official confirmed. This mass resignation occurred just one day before the presidential election, which was prompted by Yoon's removal from office following his attempt to impose martial law in December.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the officials handed in their resignation letters on Monday, the day preceding the June 3 election. The Ministry of Personnel Management received the resignations from public officials in political service, including ministers and vice ministers. The newly elected President, Lee Jae-myung, will decide whether to accept these resignations, as the election was held early to replace Yoon, allowing Lee to assume office immediately without a transition period.
Past instances of similar actions were noted, such as in 2017 when top officials under the former Park Geun-hye administration also submitted their resignations two days before the presidential election. This election was necessitated by Park's removal from office due to a corruption and influence-peddling scandal.
