DP’s Lee Jae-myung Confident as Polls Indicate Imminent Victory in Presidential Election

Incheon: Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung expressed his commitment to fulfill his duties to meet public expectations on Tuesday, as polls indicated he was inching closer to a presidential election win. "If the results are confirmed, I express my respects to the great decision made by the people," Lee declared before a gathering of supporters and media at his residence in Incheon, located west of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee, accompanied by his wife Kim Hye-kyung, addressed the crowd, emphasizing the preliminary nature of the results. "It's too early to say anything definitively ... I will do my utmost to fulfill the heavy responsibilities and my calling, so that I won't fall short of the people's expectations. Thank you," he stated, bowing respectfully to the public.

Following his address, Lee departed from his home and proceeded to the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeouido, located in western Seoul. As of 11:50 p.m., with 45 percent of the votes tallied, Lee was leading with 49.10 percent, surpassing his conservative opponent Kim Moon-soo, who had secured 42.55 percent. All three major TV stations projected a certain victory for Lee in the election.
