Seoul: South Korea's top military officer met with the chief of the U.S. Transportation Command on Monday to discuss ways to bolster cooperation, including the regularization of combined transportation drills, as announced by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
According to Yonhap News Agency, JCS Chairman Adm. Kim Myung-soo and Gen. Randall Reed held talks in Seoul, where they agreed on the necessity of cooperating in transportation to ensure the swift deployment of U.S. augmenting forces on the Korean Peninsula during contingencies. They also concurred on the importance of strengthening the interoperability of transportation assets through regular training sessions.
During the meeting, Kim praised the South Korea-U.S. alliance as a model partnership that serves as a crucial element for stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the broader Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized the importance of establishing a combined defense posture capable of effectively responding to North Korea's advancing nuclear, missile, and cyber threats amid closer ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.
Reed's visit was notable as it marked the first trip to South Korea by the chief of the U.S. Transportation Command in 13 years, underlining the significance of the discussions in the context of regional security dynamics.
