Seoul: Former President Yoon Suk Yeol will not appear for police questioning this week regarding charges linked to his unsuccessful martial law attempt, as confirmed by one of his legal representatives on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon's lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, announced plans to submit a statement to the police on Wednesday, asserting that an investigation by summons is "unnecessary." The former president was scheduled to be questioned on Thursday concerning allegations that he instructed the Presidential Security Service (PSS) to obstruct the execution of a detention warrant against him in early January.
In addition to these charges, Yoon is accused of directing the PSS to erase records from secure phones used by three military commanders soon after his martial law bid failed. When questioned about the possibility of Yoon consenting to questioning if police visited him, the lawyer stated, "That's a matter to be decided after seeing the police's response to our statement."
Yoon previously ignored a summons to appear for questioning on June 5, according to police.
