Seoul: RM and V, members of the globally renowned K-pop group BTS, are set to be discharged from South Korea's mandatory military service on Tuesday. They will become the third and fourth members of the group to complete this national obligation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, RM and V enlisted in December 2023. RM served in the Army's military band, while V was part of a special mission unit under the military police. Their discharge follows the earlier completion of service by fellow members Jin and J-Hope, who finished their duties in June and October of the previous year.
The remaining BTS members are also nearing the end of their service. Jimin and Jungkook are scheduled for discharge on Wednesday, while Suga, who served as a social service agent due to health considerations, is expected to complete his duty on June 21. In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve between 18 and 21 months in the military.
The upcoming discharges are significant as they mark a pivotal step toward BTS' eagerly awaited return to the music scene as a complete group. Last week, V expressed his enthusiasm for resuming activities by addressing fans on the Weverse platform, stating, "ARMY, I want to see you soon. You've waited for me," referring to BTS' dedicated fanbase.
Hybe, the parent company of BTS' label, BigHit Music, has decorated its headquarters in Seoul with BTS and ARMY logos, along with the message "We Are Back." This display will remain up through June 29, aligning with the group's debut anniversary on June 13. "This phrase feels even more special as all the members have completed their military service and are returning to their fans," Hybe mentioned in a release. With Jin and J-Hope already back and actively pursuing solo activities, anticipation for BTS' group projects continues to build.
