Goyang: South Korea's largest food expo commenced on Tuesday, setting the stage for a four-day event at the KINTEX exhibition center in Goyang, located just northwest of Seoul. The expo has attracted numerous food companies keen on increasing their export activities amid the global rise in popularity of Korean cuisine.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Seoul Food 2025 will host a record 1,639 food companies from 45 countries. These companies are showcasing their products to approximately 300 buyers from around the world. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has outlined that Korean companies plan to explore export opportunities worth US$250 million, targeting markets in the United States and Southeast Asia, where Korean food continues to enjoy significant popularity.
Park Jung-sung, deputy minister for trade and investment, emphasized the importance of Korean food as a major export item for the country. He stated that the government is committed to supporting Korean food manufacturers in their export endeavors. Earlier this year, the Seoul government set an ambitious annual target of $14 billion in food exports by 2025, highlighting the strategic importance of this sector for the national economy.
