Seoul: South Korea's exports experienced a 5.4 percent increase from a year earlier during the first 10 days of June, data showed Wednesday. Outbound shipments reached US$15.47 billion in the June 1-10 period, compared to $14.68 billion recorded a year ago, according to the Korea Customs Service.
According to Yonhap News Agency, imports also saw a significant rise, jumping 11.5 percent year-on-year to $17.18 billion over the same period. This increase in imports resulted in a trade deficit of $1.7 billion for South Korea.
In May, the country faced a 1.3 percent year-on-year decline in exports, amounting to $57.3 billion, which broke a three-month streak of growth. This decline was largely attributed to a decrease in shipments to the United States, influenced by tariff measures implemented by U.S. President Donald Trump.
