Seoul: National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac held a meeting with Akihisa Nagashima, a special adviser to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, on Monday to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations, as announced by the presidential office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Wi Sung-lac convened a breakfast meeting with Nagashima earlier in the day, as confirmed by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung. During the meeting, both parties discussed strategies to enhance the bilateral relations between South Korea and Japan and agreed to maintain close communication in the future.
Nagashima's visit to Seoul coincides with his attendance at a reception later in the day, marking the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties between South Korea and Japan. This meeting holds significance as it precedes President Lee Jae-myung's departure for Canada to attend the Group of Seven summit. The summit may present an opportunity for President Lee to meet Prime Minister Ishiba in person for the first time since his inauguration earlier this month.
