Seoul: The government has announced plans to select 10 industrial complexes that will receive support in applying artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to boost productivity and explore new business opportunities, as stated by the industry ministry on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will allocate a total of 140 billion won (US$102.9 million) from an additional budget to these selected complexes by 2028. This initiative is part of a broader effort to facilitate AI transformation across the country's industrial sectors.
Earlier this year, South Korea introduced a supplementary budget of 13.8 trillion won, with more than 1.8 trillion won dedicated to enhancing the nation's competitiveness in the AI sector. This financial commitment underscores the government's strategic focus on integrating AI technologies into traditional industries.
The recipients of this support will be chosen from 24 smart green industrial complexes nationwide, which are currently working towards establishing digital and low-carbon manufacturing infrastructure. The planned investment will be specifically directed towards developing and securing essential infrastructure for AI transformation, including graphic processing units, communications networks, and AI solutions tailored for manufacturing facilities.
