Seoul: Hanwha Systems Co., a defense solutions unit under South Korea's Hanwha Group, announced it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with U.S. defense giant Northrop Grumman Corp. to jointly advance integrated air defense systems.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement is centered around enhancing technological collaboration in air defense command and control systems while exploring new business opportunities within Korea. Northrop Grumman, renowned for developing the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS), is considered a leader in advanced air defense command and control platforms globally.
IBCS is designed to integrate radar and interceptor systems across land, sea, and air, creating a dense and flexible air defense network. This integration allows for coordinated responses to a variety of threats. Currently, the system is being deployed by the U.S. Army and is under evaluation for expansion in Europe and other regions.
Hanwha Systems highlighted that this partnership aims to combine Northrop Grumman's expertise in air defense technologies with its own advanced command and control capabilities, such as the Korea Air and Missile Defense Operations Center (KAMDOC), to deliver more advanced air defense solutions.
Moreover, the collaboration is expected to play a crucial role for Hanwha Systems in developing next-generation air defense solutions, thereby enhancing its capabilities in the global defense market. "Hanwha is undergoing a bold transformation to become a leading global defense company," stated Park Sung-kyun, vice president and business director of the defense electronics division at Hanwha Systems. "Our partnership reflects our ambition to lead the development of next-generation weapon systems and strengthen our position in the global market."
