Seoul: Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun has filed a quasi-appeal against the court's rejection of his request for the recusal of judges handling his new indictments. This legal maneuver was presented orally by Kim's legal team during a hearing at the Seoul Central District Court. The hearing was convened to deliberate on whether to issue a new arrest warrant for Kim concerning his alleged involvement in former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law bid.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the court had previously dismissed Kim's request for recusal, which prompted the quasi-appeal. However, the filing of this appeal will not impede the progress of Kim's trial. The recent hearing follows the indictment of Kim by special counsel Cho Eun-suk on charges including obstruction of official duties and abetting the destruction of evidence. Additionally, a new warrant for Kim's arrest was sought.
Kim is currently detained on charges of insurrection linked to the martial law attempt. His release is anticipated on Thursday, following the conclusion of a six-month detention period.
