This event marks his new role as the first prime minister under President Lee Jae Myung.
According to Yonhap News Agency, during the ceremony held at the government complex in Sejong, Kim committed to aiding the nation in overcoming past political and economic challenges, including the failed martial law attempt by former President Yoon Suk Yeol and the ongoing economic difficulties. In a demonstration of his commitment to workers, Kim visited a nearby museum construction site to assess labor conditions and preparedness against the heat wave.
Kim's schedule this week will focus on activities in Sejong, which houses several government ministries, including his own office and the finance ministry. This focus aligns with President Lee's request for Kim to ensure balanced regional development, fulfilling a key campaign promise.
In the afternoon, Kim engaged with representatives from a major doctors' association, trainee doctors, and medical students to discuss healthcare issues amidst a long-standing medical impasse. Thousands of trainee doctors have been protesting since February last year against the government's increase in medical school quotas and other reforms, leading to significant disruptions in medical services. President Lee has advocated for dialogue to resolve these issues.
Since the new government took office, the medical community has shown a willingness to engage in discussions with both the government and the National Assembly. On the following day, Vice Health Minister Lee Hyung-hoon is scheduled to meet with major medical organizations to continue these discussions.
