Seoul: The KOSPI 200 index exhibited a varied performance today, with significant gains observed in the heavy industries and energy sectors, while several chemical and technology stocks experienced declines.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung SDI Co., Ltd. saw a decrease in its closing price, dropping by 4,100 to settle at 177,000. Meanwhile, KPIC's price fell by 800, closing at 92,500. In contrast, Mirae Asset Securities experienced an uptick, rising by 110 to end at 19,490.
The heavy industries sector showed notable strength. Otoki's stock price increased by 5,000, reaching 405,500, while Hyosung Heavy witnessed a rise of 14,000, closing at 903,000. Similarly, HD KSOE and Samsung F and M Insurance both recorded gains of 8,000, closing at 315,000 and 440,500, respectively.
In the chemical sector, YoulchonChem experienced a decline of 400, ending at 29,900, and Hanwha Solutions saw a drop of 550, closing at 35,900. Lotte Chemical Corp's price decreased by 1,700, settling at 66,200.
In the broader market, retail and consumer goods stocks presented a mixed picture. GS Retail's price increased by 240, closing at 17,230, whereas Hanssem experienced a decline of 650, ending at 44,500. The electronics sector saw LG Energy Solution rise by 4,500 to 315,000, while LG Innotek fell by 2,200 to 150,200.
The aerospace and defense sector also reported gains, with Hanwha Aerospace rising by 26,000 to close at 805,000. In the steel sector, SeAH Steel Holdings increased by 3,000, ending at 228,500.
In telecommunications, SK Telecom experienced a decline of 500, closing at 53,900. Meanwhile, KEPCO saw a minor increase of 100, ending at 37,000.
Overall, the KOSPI 200 index reflected a mixture of gains and losses across various sectors, highlighting the dynamic nature of the market landscape.
