Jincheon: Hwang Sun-woo, South Korea's most successful swimmer at the world championships, is set to pursue his fifth consecutive medal as he competes in Singapore later this month. With one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal from the last three championships, Hwang is the only South Korean swimmer to have reached the podium in three consecutive world championships.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hwang, at 22, is determined to continue his impressive streak. Speaking at a national team press conference at the Jincheon National Training Center, he expressed his ambition to secure a podium finish for the fourth consecutive time. As the defending world champion in the men's 200-meter freestyle, Hwang aims to break his national record of 1:44.40, achieved while clinching gold at the 2023 Asian Games.
Meanwhile, Kim Woo-min, the reigning world champion in the men's 400m freestyle, is also preparing to defend his title. Kim has focused on enhancing his speed and turns as he prepares to face strong competition. He aims to surpass his personal best of 3:42.42, set in June 2024, and challenge the national record of 3:41.53, held by 2008 Olympic champion Park Tae-hwan since November 2010.
Both swimmers are set to showcase their skills on the global stage, with aspirations to continue the legacy of South Korean excellence in the swimming arena.
