Epic Games Drops Antitrust Lawsuit Against Samsung Over App Store Policies

Seoul: The head of U.S. gaming giant Epic Games Inc. announced that the company has withdrawn its antitrust lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co. The lawsuit pertained to the blocking of software from sources outside of the Google and Samsung app stores on Samsung's mobile devices.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Tim Sweeney, the CEO and founder of Epic Games, stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, "We're dismissing our court case against Samsung following the parties' discussions. We are grateful that Samsung will address Epic's concerns."

Epic Games, recognized for its popular online shooter Fortnite, initiated the lawsuit last year in the U.S. The complaint was against a feature on Samsung devices that automatically blocks the installation of apps from sources other than the Google Play Store and Samsung's Galaxy Store. Epic argued that this mechanism served as an unfair barrier to competition, forcing users to download apps from Epic's official website after disabling the feature manually.

With the case against Samsung now resolved, Epic is set to continue its legal battle against Google. The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between the two U.S. tech giants over app store policies and market dominance.
