Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday urged both the ruling and opposition parties to collaborate in efforts to improve the livelihoods of the people, emphasizing their role as partners in striving for a better quality of life. Lee addressed these comments during a Cabinet meeting, where he expressed his appreciation for the establishment of a consultative body by the ruling Democratic Party and the main opposition People Power Party. This body is tasked with discussing the implementation of election promises.
According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee appealed to "the ruling and opposition parties to gather their wisdom in a way that helps people's livelihoods." He further elaborated that the National Assembly, government, and political parties should act as "partners to move toward a common goal of a better life for the people."
Additionally, President Lee called on the government to focus on strengthening South Korea's defense industry. He highlighted the country's significant progress from having no tanks during the Korean War to becoming one of the world's top 10 arms exporters over the past 75 years. Lee described the defense industry as a "new engine for economic development and the robust foundation of our national defense capabilities."
He directed the relevant ministries to set up a central control tower for defense industry development and to conduct regular meetings to evaluate arms export strategies. Lee also advocated for a comprehensive governmental approach to cultivate skilled professionals, enhance research and development, and expand into international markets.
